1.1 Background to the Study
In brief, poverty refers to a situation of low income or low consumption. It can also be viewed as a situation in which individuals are unable to meet the basic necessities of life such as food, clothing, shelter, education, security and health (Mustapha, 2021). In fact, poverty simply means that the income level from employment is so low that basic human needs can’t be met. Undeniably, poverty-stricken people and families might go without proper housing, clean water, healthy food, and medical attention.
Moreover, while low income is a cause, low consumption and poor performance become the effects thereof. In fact, poverty is a situation in which an individual is unable because of economic, social, political and psychological incapacitation, to provide himself and his family the barest basic necessities of life.
Furthermore, conceptualized poverty as “a function of education, health, child morality and other demographic variables. Indeed, education stands as a cornerstone for individual and societal progress, serving as a catalyst for economic development and social mobility.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Without a doubt, the persistent issue of poverty in Nigeria poses a substantial challenge to the educational attainment of the youth, contributing to a widening gap in educational opportunities. Despite efforts to enhance access to quality education, the nexus between poverty and educational outcomes remains inadequately understood, hindering the formulation of effective policies and interventions.

Thus, as a result, a comprehensive exploration of the specific mechanisms through which poverty influences the educational trajectory of Nigerian youths is essential for the development of targeted strategies aimed at mitigating its adverse effects.
